U.S. St. Stephen's Land Office - Receivers' monthly accounts, 1824-1844.

District land office Receivers were responsible for all financial transactions relating to the sale of public lands. In these volumes are recorded the monthly accounts the Receiver kept with the U.S. Land Office. In journal form, the accounts record payment of salary and commissions to the Receiver, Register and other local officials and payments for supplies. Credits of the total amount collected by the Receiver each month are recorded, as is the amount deposited in local banks. These volumes include the accounts of Receivers George Conway, Thomas J. Wilkinson and E.H. Gordy. The 1824-1828 volume also contains accounts relating to the settlement of the estate of George Conway, 1826 June - 1828 Feb. These records document the business aspects of public land sales and the work of the Receiver of Public Monies.
